St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, known to millions simply as Mother Cabrini, founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and crossed the ocean more than twenty times to serve immigrants in their poverty and loneliness. Told by the pope to go west instead of east, she obeyed, and built schools, hospitals, and orphanages across the Americas. In 1946 she became the first United States citizen to be canonized. She is the patroness of immigrants. Feast day: November 13.

O St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, humble servant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, you crossed every ocean placed before you and found no distance too far when love called you to the poor, the stranger, and the forgotten.
Intercede for me now in my own crossing. Obtain for me the courage you carried, the trust that made every closed door an open one, and a heart that welcomes as Christ welcomes. Watch over all who are far from home, and lead them safely to the harbor of God’s love.
