St. Rita of Cascia endured a harsh marriage, the murder of her husband, the loss of her sons, and rejection from the convent she longed to enter, and through all of it she never stopped praying. Admitted at last to the Augustinian monastery, she bore a wound from Christ’s crown of thorns for fifteen years. Alongside St. Jude, she is invoked as the patroness of impossible causes. Prayer to St. Rita
O holy patroness of those in need, St. Rita, you were humble, pure, and patient. Your pleadings with your divine Spouse are irresistible, and from your abundance of grace you obtain whatever you ask.
Come to my aid in this great need, for you know my heart and the trial I carry. Obtain for me what seems impossible to human strength, and I will honor you and sing your praises forever.
